File your homestead: The exemption is not automatic. File Form 50-114 with your county appraisal district. Texas allows a partial-year homestead, so you can file as soon as you own and occupy the home, and late applications are accepted for up to two years after the delinquency date. It’s free, and the savings recur every year you live in the home.
Effective rates are county averages; actual rates depend on ISD, city, MUD, PID, and emergency service districts. Over-65 and disabled exemptions also freeze your school tax bill. 100% disabled veterans qualify for a full primary residence exemption.
